
Dr. Smith is Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of NeoStem, Inc., (NYSE MKT: NBS) a leader in the emerging cellular therapy industry. Additionally, she serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and President of the Stem for Life foundation, a non-profit entity with the goal of educating the public about the growing benefits of stem cell therapies and applications as well as assisting to fund their development. Her expertise in business development and medicine includes her extensive and diversified experience serving in executive and board level capacities for various medical, marketing enterprises and healthcare-based entities. In 2010, under Dr. Smith’s leadership, NeoStem earned the New Economy "Best Stem Cell Company" award and named the 2012 fastest-growing technology, media, telecommunication, life sciences and clean technology company in the Tri-State New York area and number seven in North America by the Deloitte Technology Fast 500™. Dr. Smith has successfully led the business in completing five acquisitions and one divestiture as well as raised over 100 million dollars toward building one of the leading companies in the emerging cell therapy industry.
Dr. Smith has acted as a senior advisor to, and investor in, both publicly traded and privately held companies where she has played a significant role in restructuring and or growing such businesses. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the NYU Langone Medical Center and is past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases where she headed up new development efforts and board member recruitment. Dr. Smith has also served on the boards of other public and private companies. She was also appointed to the Board of Directors, Science and Faith STOQ Foundation in Rome as well as the Capital Formation Committee of the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine.
